A Family Run Business

Bob Dockham, Owner

I have been interested in building and carpentry since junior high and high school when I started making those little take home projects. I developed further interest a few years later when my wife and I purchased our first home. As with many first homes, it needed some remodeling. I spent many nights and weekends working on it and developing my skills. Friends and family noticed that I had a knack for construction and so Dockham’s Carpentry was born. I started working on several other homes in our neighborhood and surrounding areas. By 1988 I had developed quite a clientele and decided to start a full time building and remodeling company. Within 5 years, projects and business grew and we added carpenters and decided to change our name to Dockham Builders.

Although we do build new homes for clients, and in our own developments, our forte is remodeling and adding on to existing homes. Every project is different and requires a lot of attention to detail, to ensure that the expectations of the client are always met or exceeded. I enjoy the challenge that comes along with the building and remodeling industry.  There are not a lot of easy solutions and it requires a lot of out of the box thinking.

Kathy Dockham, Marketing/Reception

I have been working with my husband Bob in a variety of ways since Dockham Builders began in 1988.  For many years I worked 32 hours a week at another job, taking care of our two boys and type quotes and contracts in the evening and on weekends.  This went on for several years until falling asleep at the computer was not an option!

In 2003, we decided it would be beneficial for me to leave my job and work for Dockham Builders full time.  Having someone in the office to answer the phones is a great asset and has helped our company to grow. The response has been extremely positive. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me how much they appreciate having someone actually answer the phone and I constantly hear “Thank you so much for calling me back” In this fast paced world that we live in today, personal service is definitely an asset.

I enjoy talking with and working with our clients whenever I can. Getting to know people and helping them through what can be an overwhelming process is very gratifying for me. I became a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist a few years ago, so we could help our clients stay in their homes.  I love all aspects of the building process, from the first phone call, through the design phase to helping with interior and exterior choices and taking photos of the completed project. Every client and every project is different and that’s what makes it enjoyable. You never know who will call and where this business will go next. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your dream home!

Keith Dockham, Project Manager

A lot has changed since I started working in this business as a young man—I feel like I’ve grown right along with this business. I started working with my dad when I was a boy and learned how to do things right, from the bottom up. Having that experience has helped me to appreciate the hard work that goes into every aspect of a building project and building a business. Being in my 40’s now, I can reflect on how far we have come and I look forward to the future of this company. My family has built a reputation on the seacoast as a company you can count on.

We started off small and have grown a lot over the years and we continue to grow. We’ve faced a lot of challenges as we’ve grown, but we keep learning. Most of all we care about the work we do and the people we work for, so we keep trying to improve our process.

From our office staff to our estimators and our field crew, our entire team is intent on working together to make Dockham Builders a success. When you hire Dockham Builders, you’re not just hiring someone who can build, you are hiring a team that cares about what they’re building—A Good Reputation.
